Redhead NSW 2290
Redhead is a coastal suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia. With the Pacific Ocean as it’s major attraction, it is also close to a number of conservation reserves. Besides being surrounded by nature, Redhead is still only sixteen kilometres from the centre of Newcastle, the second biggest city in NSW.
Like other nearby suburbs, Redhead’s early history was based around mining and the suburb itself was developed in the late 1940s.
The original railway line that connected Redhead with Newcastle and Belmont was closed 1971 but in 2009 was converted to a popular walking and cycling path called the Fernleigh Track.
But Redhead’s major attraction is undoubtedly its beach, popular with board riders and safe for swimmers. Redhead Beach is accessed off Beach Road, Redhead 2290 and sits at the northern end of a nine mile stretch of coastline. The beach is known for its stunning cliff face, rocky outcrops and shark tower.
Holiday makers can enjoy the beach and surrounds with accommodation at the Redhead Beach Holiday Park at 1A Kalaroo Rd, Redhead NSW 2290. With long or short stay options, the park offers self-contained cabins or villas and is only a short walk to the beach via a wooden boardwalk.
For the elderly, Redhead has excellent aged care accommodation at Redhead Residential Care at 120 Redhead Rd, Redhead NSW 2290. Sixty private and companion rooms, most with ensuite bathrooms, have garden or spectacular sea views. With 24hour care, the home also provides physiotherapy, podiatry, speech therapy, social outings, nutrition programs, exercise programs, a men’s group, a hairdresser and much more.
